The inspiration for these works comes from Benaras as a meeting ground of stories and seekers.
The Ramayana is said to have been written on the ghats, we cannot prove it scientifically, but scripture tells us so.
Buddha gave his first sermon in Sarnath, and he may have walked in Benaras too, this is written in books, though no direct evidence survives.
And there is even a book that imagines Jesus as a Buddhist monk, with the ‘lost years’ of his life said to have been spent here, again, no evidence, only legend.
What connects all of this is the same question: what is real?
Science also reminds us. Quantum Physics says reality isn’t fixed, it depends on the observer. Neuroscience says we never see the world directly, only a projection shaped by our senses and mind.
That is why I chose augmented reality. Just like the city, these works are layered, what you see is there and not there at the same time. It’s real and unreal, like life itself, like faith, like memory. We never fully know if what we see is the truth
