Really happy to share the Colombo International Book Fair 2026, Visual Identity & Event Branding.

This project feels particularly personal.
My parents used to take me to the Colombo Book Fair when I was little, and I remember collecting its tickets, bookmarks and little pieces of printed material. Years later, after working on the identity for the Colombo Literary Festival, I received a call from the Sri Lanka Book Publishers’ Association inviting me to help refresh the branding of the Colombo International Book Fair 2026.

The challenge was an interesting one: How do you modernise something so familiar without losing what people already love about it?
We retained the recognisable Book Fair blue and introduced a bright highlighter green, inspired by something almost every reader does: highlighting a sentence, underlining an idea, marking a page and making a book their own.

The identity expanded across the entire Book Fair experience—from the main key visual, entrance façades and pandols to wayfinding, stage and backdrop design, digital platforms, social media, stationery, invitations, bookmarks, apparel, merchandise, bus branding, ticketing and registration.
I also had the opportunity to develop the identity for the new සංකථන මණ්ඩපය / Discourse Pavilion, creating its logo and visual language as part of the wider Book Fair experience.
A big thank you to Athula Jayakodi, Deepal Morayes, Darshana Ralapanawa, Kapila Wikramasingha, and everyone who helped bring this project to life. A special mention to Anura Ratnayaka, the hidden star who has been translating my designs into real-world structures through fabrication and ironwork for many years. A special thank you to my old friend Indushan Rajan Poobalasingham, who helped translate most of the content into Tamil.

Seeing an event I grew up visiting transformed through a visual language I helped create has been a special full-circle moment.
